Set against the backdrop of the majestic and ancient Badami rocks, the three acre retreat is intended to ‘slow down time’ for its guests. The architecture uses tradidional elements of design - courtyards, deep set verandahs, sun breaking screens that provide and inward looking, shaded and naturally cool spaces



The semi-open reception verandah is an interplay of light and shadow and the wooden screens encourages natural ventilation. The plants all around give a sense of sitting in a garden verandah



The ‘kund’ like or steppped swimming pool is reminiscent of the stepwells and temple ablution paved wells of ancient  India



Guest rooms are clustured around courtyards wrapped with deep verandah spaces. These spaces also act as sitout areas for guests, providing a very private connection to the courtyard garden and keeping the sun away from the large sliding glass doors of each room





The choice of material is the raw laterite walls and exposed concrete  structural members. The use of the ‘Rohtak’ shallow brick domes adds a unique rustic charm to the rooms of the retreat



The transparent wood and glass partitions make the restaurant connect with the central round amphitheatre courtyard and private garden overlooking the majestic Badami rocks in the background. The intricate wooden screens create a play of shadows and add privacy between the many tables
